Meet Lisa

About Me

My name is Lisa Mills & I am your online tutor. I am a registered school teacher (early childhood, special education, primary & secondary) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts & Drama; & a Graduate Diploma in Education.

I am bilingual in spoken English & BSL (British Sign Language) / Auslan (Australian Sign Language).

Deaf since birth, it wasn’t until my teenage years that I learnt to sign. It was the best thing I ever did as it enabled me to discover my deaf identity & learn ways to be proud of my deafness.

I have published a beautiful hardcover deaf awareness book 'Look at Me: Deaf Awareness' & a sign singing DVD for children called 'Sing & Sign with Lisa'. Both are popular resources! These are both available in my online store.

I am also married to a wonderful deaf man from England & we have two gorgeous hearing children 4y.o & 2y.o. Both children are growing up to be bilingual in sign language & English. In fact, both are said to be demonstrating very high communication, language & vocabulary skills for their age - thanks to sign language!

Sign language is a beautiful language & has opened many doors for my family & I. And, I anticipate that learning sign language will open new doors for you too.

Deaf Yoga

I am also a trained yoga teacher with over 500hrs of training in Level 1 (200hrs) & Level 2 (300hrs) Yoga Alliance accredited courses. This training was predominantly in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar & Hatha Yoga as well as Yoga Anatomy, Pranayama, Meditation & Ayurveda. In addition to this training I have completed Level 1 & 2 teacher training in Children's Yoga, Special Yoga (for children with disabilities) & Prenatal Yoga.

We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.

"I have spasmodic dysphonia, which makes it difficult to talk & be heard. So sign language is great for me. It is difficult when your just starting out, but with the Lisa Mills course it is so easy. She takes you through a lot of things & breaks them down so they are easy to understand. I actually taught myself the alphabet & a few things off YouTube. Now I'm enrolled in this course, no more learning of there, a lot of them are too quick & they don't break it down for you to actually follow. Because I had done some searches previously on the internet for Auslan things, Facebook popped up one day with an ad for a course Lisa was actually doing in my town. So I jumped on that quick & then I found out she did online courses I could do at my own pace. It takes me a few viewings to pick the signs up & retain them, but that is the great thing. You have a lifetime to work & go back & watch as many times as you like. For anyone at all interested in learning Auslan, which I think everyone should, the Lisa Mills online course is 100% the right thing to get. Thank you so much, Lisa!

"Thoroughly enjoyed Level One, and can't wait to start Level Two! It's interesting and very easy to understand. I'm loving teaching one of the students in my class as well. Thanks, Lisa!"

- Kim Whitehead, School Learning Support Officer

""Ive been a bit embarrassed to tell my baker I've been learning to sign until I got more confident, but it just happened today. I asked her to do something for me using a few words and fingerspelling the ones I didn't know. With the biggest smile she mouthed, "Are you signing?" I signed, "Yes, learning Auslan." She signed thank you and walked away with a huge smile. She was in the best mood for the rest of her shift. Felt good to include her in communicating!""

- Kim Whitehead, Kristy Hannam, Baker
